    Well, I've been using the nvidia 173xx driver with my d900t mobo alienware 7700 laptop w/ the geforce 6800 256 mb..

    However, nvidia has officially dropped support for it ending in xorg server 1.15.... I can't update to 1.16

    So, if installing linux you need xorg 1.15... my arch install currently has this, but i find it pretty depressing that I have to hold back stuff; I don't know how long until there will be some kind of breakage, so I might go back to ubuntu or some kind of LTS release on this machine. The last time I tried nouveau, it only took up 1/4 of the screen, which really isn't an option :/ The laptop screen is broken w/ a line running through it, so it's set up outputting to a 1080p tv display.... which, DID work with the 173xx driver that is now unsupported.
