Why did you go with PHP anyway? On the web it's often enough a necessary evil, but I would never consider it for aynthing not web-related.

It's mentioned in a number of other threads and documentation, but came down to basically reusing lots of other existing Phoronix code, needing to use lots of the same functions on the Global side but not wanting to have to write an extension for PHP to tap into it if in another language, has worked out to be quite portable, lots of experience with PHP, etc.

No, I do Java, C/C++, etc too, but for the reasons I've had, it was done in PHP.

I use opensuse 11.3 and I just had to add http://download.opensuse.org/reposit...openSUSE_11.3/ to my repositories. Which wasn't a big deal

I just did a dpkg --build of the files I built manually.
