Phoronix: Alien Arena 2011 Is Coming Soon
We have just received an email from John Diamond, the lead developer of the open-source Alien Arena game, that the Alien Arena 2011 release will be coming this Fall (in North American terms) and we have been told some of the features to be found in this new version...

Everyone's a critic.![]()
I'm not sure how much info the devs are comfortable with me saying, but I can post a link to this thread where there is a *little* bit more information:

I can also say that the "New GUI" being worked on is TrueType support, instead of just using bitmaps for fonts. This will massively improve the look of the game: menus, HUDs, and most importantly, the currently-unreadable ingame console. That last one is the most important for me, it'll allow me to do my development work in fullscreen without ruining my eyes.
Well, I have to apologize so, I thought "... we have been told some of the features to be found in this new version." would be a little more than what you wrote in your article.
Anyway, to get me wrong, I like phoronix very much, but I don't like when someone tell me he knows something but doesn't share it. I thought that's what you were doing to save up for a later article.
Keep up the good work![]()
