Linux Game Publishing has announced today that their latest Linux game port, Ballistics, has gone gold. Ballistics is a game that takes place in a high-tech society and involves a futuristic type of Formula One racing. This game went gold today and should be on sale starting May 31, 2007. The Ballistics' Linux product page is available at Linux Game Publishing.
Why they are porting soo old and not well known games?
Why not Prey, Heroes5, Half-Life 1,2 or STALKER?
Maybe because those games work in wine.... But there are that doesn't - for example F.E.A.R....
Got about $50K to license the rights to do the ports to just ONE of those titles?
The reality is that most of the titles you mentioned, they want a LOT of money up-front to get just the right to see the codebase- and that doesn't even get into the royalties owed on publishing the game once it's ported. Ballistics was done because it was a good game (It still is...) and it came inexpensively. In all honesty, gaming is all about playing games and not how "cool" or "new" something is.
Now, having said this, Michael's got some **GOOD** stuff coming our way...
