  • Catalyst 11.2 with discrete intel/ati?

    Hello,
    Has anybody tried to install latest 11.2 catalyst drivers with a discrete ATI card in a Intel/ATI platform?

    I'm keeping the track to Catalyst since a few months ago with no luck.
    10.12 directly spit that it didn't work with a integrated/discrete graphics.
    11.1 did't give any error when intel driver not loaded, but also didn't run.
    11.2 have introduced something about powerexpress integrated and discrete, but I was not able to properly run them. It detects ATI card and seems to fully configure it. It even detects intel card with an elegant:
    "(II) fglrx: intel VGA device detected, load intel driver."
    and fully loads and configures intel driver.
    But again no luck, tons of:
    (II) fglrx(0): === [xdl_x760_atiddxPreInit] === begin

    And also with some xorg.conf combinations:
    [ 890.730] 0: X (xorg_backtrace+0x3b) [0x80c970b]
    [ 890.730] 1: X (0x8048000+0x5e56d) [0x80a656d]

    If somebody has had more knowledge/luck with this, please post.
    Thanks

    It's not going to work unless you can disable the Intel IGP in the BIOS. You can use the open-source intel and ati drivers and switch between the GPU's using the vga_switcheroo script.

      Yes, I supposed that, but I've tried with each new release of fglrx, and with 11.1 I thought that the solution was close.

      With vga_switcheroo, I've seen more power consumption comparing with acpi_call when only with Intel card. Also, many more intel hangs when resuming from suspend, and no so much success with radeon.

      About the BIOS option. The laptop (HP Pavilion DV3 4070ss) have a hidden advanced menu (pressing A after F10 when entering BIOS) that allows to choose iGPU, Hybrid or dGPU, but chossing dGPU refuses to boot (You can't even see the BIOS boot, only 4 flashes in CapsLock led, i.e. Graphic Card) and after reboot, option always change to Hybrid (even chosing iGPU, that boot perfectly but without ATI).
