Phoronix: OilRush Pre-Ordering Is Imminent; Unigine Now Does Flash

For those that have been wondering when the pre-order process will begin for Unigine's OilRush game, which will grant gamers access to a beta version of the game until launch, the pre-ordering is imminent...

It would be cool if they opened up their flash implementation, even though I'm sure it still isn't a full-featured interpreter.

Now that I think about it, delivering a free, open-source implementation of flash player would be a great PR campaign for Unigine. The current flash player is abysmal, for Linux more so than for Windows; if Unigine's version is better, Unigine Flash Player might replace the Adobe Flash Player, which is currently installed on 95% of desktops. The more people use it, the more people will see the name Unigine while browsing the 'net, which would help with promoting the Unigine brand. Just saying.

If the Unigine developers are reading this, think about it You would be doing the community a great service along the way, too.

We don't have too much information on this one yet. It might be entirely feasible that Unigine has linked to an external flash library (maybe Adobe, maybe gnash/lightspark/etc) and uses it to perform on-screen or off-screen rendering which is when overlaid on top of whatever the game engine is currently drawing.

If they've written their own flash implementation, that's nice, and I'm sure we'd all love to see it.

If it used Adobe Flash, why would there be unsupported features? From the development log:

Added support of Adobe Flash: rendering of all shapes, morph shapes, fonts (TTF and embedded ones), static/dynamic text, textures, gradients, buttons. Currently virtually all features are implemented except for sounds, videos, line styles, blending and filters). Flash movies can be used in Unigine-powered applications via WidgetFlash (even on curved 3D surfaces if ObjectGui object is used) or as a splash screen via engine.splash functions.

Added support of ActionScript 2.0 (though polymorphism and exception handling are not supported yet). At the moment the following classes and methods are implemented:
          This, I think, suggests a non-Adobe implementation.

Huh, it'd be interesting to have a direct competitor to Scaleform...
