Hey that sounds good. Michael, don't bring up unnecessary hope :Pand is unlikely to be not flipped on by any of the major distributions, due to legal reasons.
Phoronix: Will Floating Point Textures Be Merged Into Mesa?
Lucas Stach has brought a proposal to the Mesa mailing list of merging Mesa's floating point textures and render targets code branch into the mainline Mesa repository. Floating point textures have been available in OpenGL for years, but has yet to enter mainline Mesa as it's a patented feature...

Omg, OpenGL is actually proprietary patented ClosedGL.
Game developers were HAPPY to utilize the technology that is actually PATENTED.
Hardware vendors were HAPPY to conseal the fact.
Now its either working proprietary corporate 3D or opensource badly financed 3D with whopping 2+2 developers! Ain't we happy about this?
And microsoft and its supporters attack it with directX. Lets make 3D even more pro-microsoft! Lets just forget OpenGL and enjoy microsoft eula (which no one reads)! "We ck you every possible way, you pay for it and we give no warranties" - ftw!
More patents! More IP mess! More Linux unsupported! Let us consumers pay for this to progress by buying generally available cards in every store on this planet! Because people who do not want that are huge minority and should sleep in paper boxes!
Wait, so which of the following is legal, and which illegal?
- Possessing source code containing patented technology
- Distributing source code containing patented technology
- Compiling source code containing patented technology
- Possessing binaries containing pantented technology
- Using binaries containing patented technology
- Distributing binaries containing patented technology
I assume they've vetted their approach with a lawyer?

So long you support (pay) to patent supporters - they will push further. They will come back. US and Nippon have given up, they are already on it in Russia.
Do you watch SKY?
Do you buy DRMed media(virtually any offline store)?
Do you visit cinema?
Do you buy windows games from famous publishers?
Do you buy proprietary software?
Because, even if you just copy them yourself, you contribute to market statistic.
