    Is the GTX 470 or 480 a serious step up from the ATI 5750 in Linux? (EDIT 460 as well)

    Would these cards provide a significant performance increase for gaming in Linux

    For gamers it would be certainly a nice update, especially when you want to use tesselation - like the Unigine Heaven benchmark (and maybe the OilRush game, no idea about id tech 5). You should not consider a GTX 470 or 480 anymore. Better a GTX 570 which needs less power and is about as fast as a GTX 480. Instead of a GTX 460 the GTX 560 is also more powerful. Forget the GTX 4 series if you have got enough money. GTX 460 is only good when you can not afford a GTX 560.

    5750 = ~450
    460 = ~6850
    550Ti
    470=560Ti=~5850=~6950
    480=~570=~6970
    580

    This is average. Sometimes in very rare cases HD6xxx series has way more performance. But this is on windows -.- .
