Regarding the extra power regression - Michael have you finished bisecting it down to the commit that caused the issue? Without knowing the exact point the issue was introduced it is going to be very unlikely someone will work on the problem...

Secondly it's a bit disingenuous to say "Intel Sandy Bridge support broke at the last minute". It would be more accurate to say it continues to remain broken for a set of Sandy Bridge users. This is obviously a difficult situation - we need the people who use need the semaphores on and those who need it off to test all the new revisions so as to weed the problem out...

Ted Ts'o decided to activate the "direct bio layer" feature of ext4, following the fix by Curt Wohlgemuth.

Is a benchmark comparison with it disabled/enabled possible ? I can't test it myself, mainly because of a lack of skill in kernel compilation
