Earlier this year Apple introduced Thunderbolt ports on their new systems while more hardware vendors will be offering these next-generation high-speed connections on their systems going forward, particularly when the Ivy Bridge hardware is rolled out. Thunderbolt, which was developed under the Light Peak codename, can transfer data at 20 Gbit/s and offers much potential, but how's the Linux support?..

the fact that there is no universal connector standard (ie sony uses a usb connector) is somehow worrying (or plain stupid)

Peer-to-peer? That's one fast crossover cable then. 20Gbps with widely available cables between two comps.

Peer-to-peer would be very nice, but we already have 10Gbase-cx4 or SPF+, of course technology thunderbolt is meant to be chip, maybe one can use ring network for high performance computing.
