    Default 8.42.3 Screen glitches && missing textures

    Hi here, updated to 8.42.3 from 8.40.4, aiglx works, but i have graphical glitches on the screen running compiz: http://mrduck.hopto.org/img/__.png . Screen is not slow or anything,it runs pretty smoothly but just with these glitches.

    Also (dunno if it's related to this,but worse prob for me) i've no textures in World of Warcraft using openGL: http://mrduck.hopto.org/img/wow-notexture.png
    http://mrduck.hopto.org/img/wow-logon.png . Textures are present while using d3d, though the performance is horrible (d3d gives up to 3fps).
    Had performance problems with 8.40 too, textures in WoW were present, but it ran in 4-10fps with oGL.
    Any suggestion is pretty welcome,thanks :-) Here goes some info:
    Code:
    $ uname -a
    Linux kachna-desktop 2.6.22.9-mrduck #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Sep 29 15:01:44 CEST 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
    Code:
    $ fglrxinfo
    display: :0.0  screen: 0
    OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
    OpenGL renderer string: Radeon X1600 Series
    OpenGL version string: 2.0.6958 Release
    Code:
    $ glxgears
    9165 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1832.843 FPS
    10006 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2001.195 FPS
    9970 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1993.848 FPS
    10048 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2009.465 FPS
    -- Had around 4000 with 8.40

    Code:
    $ fgl_glxgears
    Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
    4165 frames in 5.0 seconds = 833.000 FPS
    4175 frames in 5.0 seconds = 835.000 FPS
    4173 frames in 5.0 seconds = 834.600 FPS
    -- Had around 500 with 8.40

    Here's the edge of Xorg.0.log that could make some sense:

    That's it, the next driver sux at AIGLX

    there are apparently 2 solutions:

    1. Keeps using XGL and prey for next release

    2. Go for an nVidia

    I've already made up my mind to dump my X1900 and go to a 8800GT as soon as it launch (29/October)

    I had that horrible screen distortions also on my Ubuntu Gutsy with 8.42.3, I made a clean install yesterday and now everything is back to normal (except for choppy animations/laggy 2d).

    I have the same problem with WoW.
    On my ATI 9700 mobility the new driver seemed to work great, without any glitches or something.
    And I also had some frames more in glxgears and fgg_glxgears.
    So the next thing I wanted to test was how much frames would there be more in WoW...
    ...to my surprise the framerate doubled.
    But unfortunately only the half game was rendered. No Characters, many objekts missing.

    I really hope there is a solution for this...

    That half game rendered explained why your frame rate doubled: there was simply fewer things to render!

    That's pretty possible,i think so too,however...i think it's just rendered by CPU,not a GPU :/ Though there's nothing in console :-( Lost the logs coz i kinda destroyed my partition(damn, 100G of data :/),but will try to get it back asap and will make new ones.

    A clean install also made my AIGLX setup work.

    I'm only bumping this thread up again because these issues have come back. It doesn't seem to make any sense, and it persists over reboot. I can no longer use AIGLX anymore, and I was using it fine just an hour ago... No changes have been made, apart from switching from dual-head to single-head mode (which I had done about 5 other times over yesterday and today with no problems).

    This is really, really crazy stuff. I have no clue what I've done to change things!
