An ambulance for |d2kx|'s broken HD4850

d2kx send me his old broken HD4850 he say me the card overheat very fast and crash.

And i say to him i will save the life of this old but gold card!

Today the card arrived and i do not try the card because of the well known issue and i don't wanna hurt the card with just more senseless heat.

Now the first aid began first of all i remove the cooling solution.

After that i heat up my professional high-tech food-streamer oven with electronic sensors to 105C and after the temp is ready i put the card in and clock the timer on 30 minutes.

I do this for an first aid for the solder joints to fix hair cracks in the solder.

After that i put on a special cooling solution out of my waste box of old computer stuff.

A Cooling solution of an old Gigabyte Geforce 6800 128mb passiv cooled!

A 2 heatpipe based full passiv cooling solution.

After a little work with super clue to save some electronical components against the metal on pressure on the gpu board and super clue work on the cooling solution used as paint for electronically resistance i put the stuff on it.

with some silver paste on the core for the heat-flow
after that i test the card and it shows the card burn this cooling solution in 60 seconds to shutdown crash.
now i take the fan from the old cooling solution and put it on top and test it again.
now the card crash 1 minute later....

now i put another bigger fan on bot of the card with an extra connector to the board.

and now surprise ! the card works stable and save!!!

yes! and its quiet! the fan on bottom is a 24V fan driven on 12V very slow UPM..
and the fan speed management of the power management in catalyst never increase the speed of the fan because the passive cooler+2 fans cool it all time in low UPM speed.

also my CPU cooling solution is nice... the wind tunnel sucked the air through the cpu cooler out of the pc case.

this wind tunnel are build by 3 pices of 800 upm 120mmX120mm fans.

very quiet.

very bad cooling solution with that cooling version the pc case overheats and i think overall my cooling solution is 3x as power full as the original version.

sure no duct tape but i use 4 to long spax screws for the bottom cooler because of this i have to use 4 cutted cable sleeves as spacers

Lol, this is joke cooling solution. I know 4850, its HOT. Its same as 9800gtx. I think even your solution is not good. You could try catch an old revision of Arctic Cooling Accelero

This will be more than sufficient. You won´t be needing mosfet coolers, but if you have those delivered, you can also install.
This solution will be supersilent and very powerfull. But 3slot.

Trust me, it really was a complete joke. At the beginning massive underclocking etc. worked out in the summer, but in the end even that didn't help. For what it's worth the reference cooler from AMD was even worse. Q's solution might look crazy but if it works... good for him.

sure it works ! rock stable! i use it all the time.. my old hd4670 is in a box.

my computer runs more than 10 hour a day..
