    Default The Battle For Wesnoth

    Phoronix: The Battle For Wesnoth

The Battle for Wesnoth is not your typical run-of-the-mill TBS game. The genre turn-based strategy, or TBS, is very self-explanatory. It is, simply put, a game where-as the game flow is broken down into turns or rounds and the game plays from there on. Although there are many other fantasy-themed titles floating around the Internet, this one does stand out of the crowd with its many intriguing features. For starters, the game offers nearly 200 forms of units along with 16 variations of races and six factions to choose from. The game allows the users to become creative and embark on their own personalized journeys. From conceiving your own units and characters to forging the worlds you dream of being in, the Battle for Wesnoth is a must-have download for any gamer out there.

Thanks for this great review. I did put it into the news section of the wesnoth homepage, too.

It would have been nice to mention the exact version (1.2.6) in the text since there are changes every now and then. And a review of the brand new dev branch would be *very* welcome, too. Many more campaigns were added and many things were changed...

I am sorry for that major mistake. I meant to involve the version used and differences within that version and the latest release. It had totally blew my mind at the time of publication.

As for a review of the dev branch, that is a possibility. I have to check it out and think about it.

Great review man. This seems like a game I'd really dig. One thing about the review... for those who don't know (like me), it would be nice to state in the beginning that this is a native linux game (vs a game emulated in wine). Thanks again for the review.

Thank you. It is implied that all reviews are going to be linux-native. I will be sure to mention that later on. Thank you for the input.

thanks for the review, i run this game on a PII 266 system with 64mb of ram (using the DSL distro).. I have no idea what its built in graphics chip is.. Its slow to load, but very playable so just about any system will do.. a grate game, my young brothers prefur it to just about any comercial game they've played for the last coupple of years. Its nice to see Free software as the best in its techincial class!

Thank you for reading the review. As for its performance on any system, that is one aspect of the game that is very commendable these days.
