Phoronix: New NVIDIA Linux Driver Likely This Week
We reported last week after the launch of the GeForce 8800GT graphics card that a new NVIDIA Linux driver is imminent. This new 8800GT-supportive driver didn't make it onto the Internet last week, so it looks like the new Linux (and likely Solaris and FreeBSD) driver will be released this week.

Hmmmm, still no driver, this place is starting to feel more like the inquirer every day. Pure speculation. ATI and Solaris fanboydom comes across very clear.
The last I've seen of any discussion on the nvnews forums, which actually get nVidia employees on them, was a suggestion that a driver would be released "in a few weeks" - that was about a week ago.
And now there's a release:
Version 169.04 (beta) was released yesterday, and claims 8800GT support among its features.
