    Default Flash video playback is shit

    Hi,

    Having been using an ATi X1950XT card (with OSS drivers), I expected my upgrade to be an upgrade. I use BBC iPlayer and other similar players, when on my old card there was no real problems, using this new card, all I get are stalls and tearing (with anti-tearing set). I find it strange that the OSS developers can write a driver that works yet ATi with the money they stick behind it cannot.

    I have one question, will this ever be sorted or do I have to wait until my card is so dated the docs have been released so that the OSS developers can write a proper driver for it? If this is the case, I may as well sell it and buy an nVidia card, at least I know the driver's work.

    So, ATi, sort it or give me a complete refund.

    Unless 2D in general is slow, you should blame Adobe for that. The 11.2 beta version supposedly has multithreaded video decoding, try that. And stop compositing managers to see if that helps. Also, I'e found that for some weird reason, Flash works much faster in Firefox than in Chromium.

    I have installed the latest beta, a bit netter but not great. but like i said this is definitelt a driver issue as my previous card didn't do this and that used oss drivers.

    First of all adobe removed the non vdpau acceleration modes beginning with flash 11. before it was enough to use a binary driver or "OverrideGPUValidation=1" override together with an oss driver in /etc/adobe/mms.cfg. 11.0 did not have got accellerated rendering at all, 11.2 has it again, but for vdpau only and it needs the "EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1" override as well. So if you use 32 bit you can test it with flash 10 and youtube:
