Again, I admit I was writing something fuzzy and clarified what I actually meant. And, again, I meant this:
As long as you stay with the same database, you can switch OS almost freely.
Thus, OS lock-in is not important to this discussion. You can run Oracle DB on Solaris or on Linux. You can run IBM DB2 on AIX or on Linux. As long as you stay with the same database, the OS is not a factor.
