LM_Sensors, the package used to facilitate hardware monitoring within Linux for a variety of different ASICs, has finally reached version 3.0. LM_Sensors 3.0.0 represents the next-generation, chip-independent hardware monitoring tools package.

So if I understand this properly, they still have some sort of kernel hook right? E.g. the i2c interface or the isa bus things?

So the drivers/deamon is now userspace, that's good, some security to worry less about then.
