nah.. every cpu from 2005 is 64 capable.

old PC should stay in progres they are NOW, if you want PC2 model, you have to move to 64 bit.

that should be ok. 32 should die [pure 32 bit] we need to progress

One of the biggest reasons to use 64bit addressing is to take full advantage of mmap. There are some pretty serious performance gains to be made by directly accessing the kernel page fault mechanism to directly pull pages.

Since 2001/2002 x86-64 exist and since P4 Prescott Intel Support this extension. Today the amount of hardware that is not x64 compatible is very small and most times very old.

Not all Atoms only some Models. But its only an Small amount of the market.

EDIT: The Atom Z500, Atom N270, Atom N280 doest support the 64bit extension.

Thankfully they fixed that. Unfortunately I have a few of those machines. They work okay for toy machines but not as good for development work.

              +1

so whats the problem? 99% hardware in pc/laptop is 64 bit capable.

today noone uses 16 bit application, or 8 bit

Hey, I still play some 16-bit games (win3.11 in a VM, if you're curious).

you can ALWAYS emulate 16 bit environment for 16 bit applications like games, so it wont hurt 99.9999999999999999% users

who normal use 16 bit now? its for nerds like US
