I'm curious, what exactly does flicker-free boot (KMS) gain you on a server?

Cute... but WHY? Most servers run HEADLESS with video output only needed for diagnostics.
Yep, I also saw these mainly (only?) on Tyan's big server boards. But might be a fair choice, if you don't want to run completely headless. Should consume not much energy but can be fine if you need local access to a machine and want to display something.
