There are reason why Linux allows you to be fast and furious. In environments with backups and UPS you want the highest performance.

So you can use sync with ext2 and ext3. Ext4 has:the sync option today has effect only for ext2, ext3, fat, vfat and ufs
commit=nrsec (*) Ext4 can be told to sync all its data and metadata
every 'nrsec' seconds. The default value is 5 seconds.
Most computers don't have UPS.
You can not set commit=0 (it will set to default).
