Argue what you want about who makes the best GPGPU system, the Knights Corner implentation is definitely different and is about a million times more open-source friendly than any other solution in this space. The open-source AMD drivers that can barely get OpenCL to do a demo on a couple of cards are light years behind this thing.

It would be nice to have the ability to compile software to directly use GPGPU type systems rather then having to go through many layers of software abstraction needed to deal with the differences in architectures in different card manufacturers.

Certainly the GPU will become a integrated co-processor. It would be nice if it wasn't proprietary.

I'm wondering the performance of swrast/llvmpipe on Knights Corner.

It might be interesting to see Intel's MIC beats all the GPUs that are using open source drivers.
