I'm just wondering if this is what Apple has up its sleeves for the Mac Pro replacement. Timing seems to be about right.
Argue what you want about who makes the best GPGPU system, the Knights Corner implentation is definitely different and is about a million times more open-source friendly than any other solution in this space. The open-source AMD drivers that can barely get OpenCL to do a demo on a couple of cards are light years behind this thing.
This is a very good article.
Very good job Michael!
lol no.
It would be nice to have the ability to compile software to directly use GPGPU type systems rather then having to go through many layers of software abstraction needed to deal with the differences in architectures in different card manufacturers.Argue what you want about who makes the best GPGPU system, the Knights Corner implentation is definitely different and is about a million times more open-source friendly than any other solution in this space.
Certainly the GPU will become a integrated co-processor. It would be nice if it wasn't proprietary.
:P
