1.) i don't doubt for a second microsoft will try to bribe its way inside russian gov whatever it takes, im not hate ranting i say for sure with first hand experience since my company works as consultant for my country gov(since 2004 the use of FOSS in gov is actually a law here) and i lost count the times that microsoft has offered me or ppl i work with in the gov side dirty deals to sabotage/dissapear/oppose/hinder/etc FOSS projects that will replace microsoft software. They cried a river our choose to replace exchange/AD with samba4/zimbra[open version]. Note i never accepted bribering but many did but so far the pro FOSS side is winning.

Microsoft will buy as much influence as is needed, politically. If that means padding the pockets of politicians or influencing elections.

2.) i own my own company so i know that bussiness are there to make profit but under no circunstance i accept so casually like some in this forums do, the need of piss all over the laws/bribering/corruption and the likes is needed to run a sucessful company but again american corporation are probably the most power hungry corrupt entities know by man and the US gov is not that far behind either.

3.) technically speaking windows is a insecure mess and prolly crappy enough to hold the 10 crapiest code ever written award but lucky for them most ppl including many in the IT area are too ignorant to bother[if you think your pc is secure cuz you use an AV and surf "carefully" the WEB you are among them] and microsft has been an expert exploiting this ignorance in their faces for 20 years + the draconian deals they forced the OEM's to follow[main reason of their market share these days][intel been there too as we all know] and since 90% of the ppl buy OEM and are too ignorant or stupid to even bother the inside of the product/security of their personal info/etc as long they can watch porn and get into facebook.

No better or worse then mac osx or most linux based offerings. Anything with network acess will be "insecure". OEM's get the best deal on the product that sell the hardware they produce.

4.) for the abi break guy post, do you even understand what an ABI is? and what in the frigging hell are you using that your apps break every week? i dare you to prove it to me LOL. in 10 years beyond nvidia/amd blob i don't remember had any sort of app breakage at all and i work always with at least 5 diff distros and i keep them as bleeeding edge as bleeding edge can be defined, i don't wanna be rude but im very sure is your fault.

Just to sum up, it'd be nice to have a diverse OS and application ecosystem with little to no dominance, but we are seeing the douply of andriod and ios in the mobile space. This isn't healthy for anyone other then the 2 duking it out. .

It would just seem only that of student side arguing about professionality in the areas of being able to provide working envinonment to end-users.

Rough part being on how Microsoft have employees to work constantly in the area of providing working areas of goverment office needs and communication along that of country desired.

The part of how other countries would get to educate their persons to work in the areas of open source and able to finally produce wanted results is not, if not important but towards that of tailored needs persons might have.

My own idealism is on how Microsoft was the first around to show working graphical & interactive environment and expending the area they were being able to provide even further, by either simple term of end user posibilities to productive solutions to any common user they had as clients.

(Anyone should be able and aware on how to complete such part, but even when solutions are providen it could be an logical consideration only.)

1.) well keeping that my daily job is very tight to information security i disagree here, sure all OS are hackeable but windows server 2003/2008r2 never took me more than 5m googling and 5 minutes hacking[Legally under contract] it to the bones[ppl get impressed when im in a rdp session making hell in servers and admins can't even see the processes running and their uber CA security/UAC/etc doing nothing except asking to open a word file LOL].
1a.) Mac OS X out of the box is lot harder to hack but still somehow easy[maybe 1h ] but at the end of the day Mac is BSD and when you harden the OS[you can google some guides] it become quite difficult to hack[Apple just make it insecure but the OS can be very sturdy but it affect the easy of use]
1b.) Linux/FreeBSD/etc are hellish to hack specially if you do things right, sometimes it took me weeks sometimes i give up but to hack linux you need to get extremely creative
1c.) OpenBSD true nightmare hellish level to hack, if i see an OpenBSD server and the root password is not "123456" i just label it as secure and save me a couple of months of pain[ofc can be hacked eventually im not saying is perfect but god damn is hard]

so concluding yes everything that has internet has a chance of getting hacked but there are vastly differences and is very short sight to assume all are equally insecure and when you work with security[the whole package not just the OS] you need to set levels cuz you have levels of hackers and level of interest for hackers, for example[this is from my own experience]:
level 1 - 3 Soho/small bussiness.) main OS windows SBS -- change to hack 9/10 -- hacker type 1-4[kiddos proving they are cool/ex-employees/spammers/etc] -- in this level you won't find a hacker able to break linux or OpenBSD
level 4 - 6 medium size bussiness.) main OS windows SBS -- change to hack 8/10 -- hacker type 1-7[kiddos proving they are cool/ex-employees/spammers/low profile industrial spionage] -- in this level is veru unlickely find a hacker able to break linux or OpenBSD
level 7-10 bank/gov/big corporation.) main OS Unixes/windows -- chance to hack 1/10 -- hacker type 7-10[higly skilled proffesional hacker/high profile industrial espionage] --in this level you will find hackers spending months/years try to hack their way regardless the OS cuz the reward is big enough for the effort in previous cases is very unlikely unless you piss off the guy and he make his life goal to screw yours[Gene simmons anyone??].

2.) ok sure but what are you using?? cuz like i said i never in ten years suffer from this at userspace level and i like i said using many different distros, so it call my curiosity what the F is causing that unless you have a propietary application compiled a decade ago to run on RHEL, in that case it could be but using FOSS software i can't believe it

Just to correct that, QDOS/86-DOS/MS-DOS was neither the first product of Microsoft nor their first appearance in the OS market. The first products of Microsoft were Altair Basic and ASCII Microsoft (their first office). So they were in the office and development market before releasing an OS. Ironically, their first OS was Xenix, a Unix version. But of course you are right, the one product that made them to what they are now was the DOS that came with the IBM PCs (and that more or less was a rip-off of CP/M).
