radeonhd 1.1.0 driver problems for the hd 3870

hey all, can anyone help em out in getting the new 1.1.0 drivers to work with my hd 3870? i install is according to the readme and everyime i reboot i get an error saying that the xserver failed to start or somethign and i always have to reconfigure it just to get into the os. i need a walkthru on how to install it in Debian - Sid (i followed the instructions for the 1.0.0 ubuntu driver... thought it would be the same) and alos how to check if its actually working and if i can support opengl. need this driver to run beryl. plz help! thanks in advance =P

it does not support 2d nor 3d acceleration yet. that means compiz/beryl/whatever is impossible right now.

opensource radeon driver (xf86-video-ati) started supporting r500/r600 cards recently, and it *might* work with 2d acceleration for you.

don't hope for aiglx in radeonhd for a couple of months. the 2d acceleration isn't even there yet.
