I remember seeing this years ago. I thought it was merged by now long ago.
I remember looking forward to this and being eager to see it.

I believe there will be no performance boost at all.

According to the original article it sounded like it could be both an increase in battery and performance throughput:

Weisbecker believes this adaptive tickless support will be of great benefit for high-performance computing, as it can optimize throughput by avoiding the overhead of the timer interrupt, and also for real-time uses with less interrupts being generated so a reduction in latency

So he probably is right, and I am probably wrong.

I haven't read about the tickless kernel in years.
