I was a fan of the Cell and still think it's a nice experimental platform. Too bad it's so hard to develop for it and get the most out of it.

I was a fan of the Cell and still think it's a nice experimental platform. Too bad it's so hard to develop for it and get the most out of it.

If Sony bothered to add OpenCL support to it, the learning curve would go way down. But instead they decided to throw their $3 billion investment in the garbage.

I think the IDEA was an awesome one, it was just too far ahead of its time namely because process technology was not yet advanced enough to do what they wanted.
