    Cool Metadata effectiveness of different filesystems

    I've always wondered if anyone could compare different filesystems in regard to their metadata effectiveness.

    1) how many (mega)bytes has to be written to the storage to create, say, a 100GB filesystem.
    2) how many bytes does a filesystem consume in order to create {empty|10MB} 3000 files and 500 directories.
    3) how many bytes does a filesystem consume in order to delete(also /move/copy to a new location) all those files.

    i.e. what's metadata overhead for different operations?

    The only reliable way to test this is to use VirtualBox.

    I'd like to see ext2, ext3, ext4, xfs, jfs, reiser3, ntfs and fat32.
