Phoronix: X11 Turns 25 Years Old Today
It was 25 years ago today, on 15 September 1987, that Version 11 Release 1 of the X Window System (a.k.a. X11) was released. X11 has evolved a long way since then, but this 25-year-old technology out of MIT remains at the heart of every Linux desktop.

Does X12 have to be implemented all at once to be switched to or could it be a gradual change?
X12 is not only about adding stuff and fixing stuff, it is also about removing stuff.
is any part of the original code still used on my ubuntu 12.04?
RHEL 7 will use x.org so that it another decade of http://www.tmrepository.com/trademar...otrealcrashes/
The only fun X11 gave us.
The only retarded technology I hate more is IE6.
hating x is like shooting a retarted baby. very few pause and think why it has sucked for decaded. this is because unix is primaraliy used in servers/mainframes and you don't need tear-free scrolling on a database cluster. not a mention its an attack surface because it runs in root. neckbeards will BS thought their teeth that x11 is widely used but the fact remains that its majority usage is on aging unix workstations and not average homes.
This old dog will never die. I bet it will be in use for another 25 years.
Happy birthday.
*Salute* Here's to another 25 years.
