Deprecate all you want, but don't ruin backward binary compatibility.
Is it still possible to have OpenGL remote view, like on a Thin client without GLX ? This is the main interest of indirect display if I'm not wrong ?
That's true that today even <50$ computer (like Raspberry Pi or all this more powerfull chinese ARM powered PC-on-a-stick or video boxes) is powerfull enough to have the full system with 3D application like Blender, but does all those good old X thin client become unusable or too slow with OpenGL application ?
You are right without indirect GLX there will be no remote rendering. But firstly this was just the baseline for a discussion and maybe someone (NVidia?) cares enough about indirect rendering that they will provide the protocol support still. Secondly deprecating means that the feature will get removed somewhere in the future. It's not like it gets ripped out from existing software and nobody forces you to run your old Thin-clients on the latest and greatest technology. Just pick what's working for you.
