Ban asdx

I am new to this forum and read the nvidia threads cause I'm curious about the general development of the binary blob (open-source or not). I just get frustrated that everytime I want to hear peoples comments about the features. I get asdx going "Nvidia is crap, blah, blah" and then thread gets derailed and the topic at hand never gets discussed.

Don't ban him. He hates, like me, companies who are against open source and you are getting some of the heat since you defend them. I really don't understand why do you defend these companies and what are you doing here. For example, I know that Nvidia, does a good job supporting Linux with their binary blob, but they have no excuse not releasing the documentation and not making their driver open source.

Ok sorry for my insults, I only insulted when others have insulted me for expressing my views on proprietary blobs, but I guess I went too far a few times with the "I hope you die" comments, I never really meant those things.

I only get angry when someone insults me for expressing my views on FOSS and blobs, and they insult me for supporting FOSS, then I insult them back for supporting blobs.

But it's pointless because those people seems to have forgotten what made Linux so great, the idea of working together and FOSS, etc.

So I won't bother trying to explain anymore, I hope they realize they are hurting Linux with blobs before it's too late.

Thanks for understanding. That's exactly my point.

We should not forget what made Linux great (FOSS, the people, etc), I believe that allowing blobs in our system is like insulting the work of thousand of other people. So I don't want to go there.

We should strieve for what made Linux and FOSS great and never, at any cost, deviate from that.

Its about being respectful asdx, i get that not everyone on these forums is respectful to everyone else all the time. Hell, me and you have gotten into it once or twice ourselves. We all snap and say shit we don't mean but over all we all need to be respectful and courtesy if for -no better reason- than to constantly trying to be the bigger man / woman.

But its really hard to take you seriously and any apology you say for disrespect when I've got something like "Location: with your sister" staring me in the face every time you post. I use that as an example because I just noticed it and that's just blatant flame-bait.

Ok, someone has broken the holy silence over yet another BullCrap thread...

I vote for read-only for both G220 and asdx for a period of two weeks.

Person who starts a ban is usually in no matter different to the one he is trying to ban. Unless its about a spambot.

G220 is nvidia fanboi. He uses nvidia, because it works and he does not care about either its opensource or not. Several engineers behind nvidia do a pretty damn good job. However, the company itself is unethical and totally proprietary. Hence the point of conflict with Asdx about opensourcing or improving opensource nouveau by releasing some specs is pointless... I see nouveau, although quite damn impressive, as a start-up effort for students to demonstrate what they can, just with single goal to join nvidia itself. It is also the movement behind "ReactOS", its a "student" OS for life.

Asdx is amd fanboi, but special kind - opensource one. He still believes in AMD opensource "effort", hehe, just like I did. Then, some of pro-AMD guys start using Catalyst and keep silent... Asdx is not that kind, so I still give him kudo's because opensource is the right thing to do. Although none, except Intel (to some acknowledgable degree) does it. AMD doesn't do it,... right. Its not behind it. Yet, those who participate on radeon driver do quite an amazing job, like Chuck Norises... And AMD can always ditch behind those guys if confronted..

So,.. this is my recommendation.. cool off guys. Have time to understand each other points. Maybe switch GPUs.. Today each type sucks at different angles.

I'm not AMD fanboi, I prefer not to be attached to any company. I'm a Linux user, and I contribute what I can when I can to the community.

Although I like what AMD/Intel has done for open source in the last years, especially Intel.

I simply want the best for Linux, that is, in-kernel open source drivers.

I simply want companies to respect Linux and the FOSS ideology, otherwise they are just hurting the Linux community with proprietary blobs, and it concerns me what the outcome of this proprietary/blob direction could be in the long run.
