It's just:
-Candy (yes);
-Super uber duber customizable;
-Keyboard shortcuts for everything; (great window management)
-Ultra super duber efficient; (E16 runs on a 486, or so I believed, and E17 on a pentium 1)
-Super stable;
-XCB supported; (yes)
-Unlike E16 also a DE;
-Runs on EFL; (Enlightenment Foundation Libraries, which is sweet)

TL;DR: it's just great, but not like KDE. It's more like a non-practical sportscar, where KDE is an Audi

Probably not technologically more advanced, but certainly more customisable. If you've ever had a pet peeve about how your window manager works, then chances are that E17 will allow you to configure it differently, either via its control panel, or via theme creation. For keyboard use, it is unparalleled.

There are some things that I can configure E17 to do, that I've never seen available in any other window manager. Genuinely useful things which help me tremendously. For that alone, I can't imagine I'll be moving to another windows manager for a very long time.

internally it is way more advanced then any other DE

everything it uses(EFL) is made to run on any cpu(even weak ARM's) and on way less RAM then any other DE (in exception of simplistic DE's like fluxbox+mc and such)
it even compresses icons
let me say that again, it compresses icons!
what other DE/file_manager even bothers to compress icons to save that couple kB of RAM

so ye, its advanced althou not so integrated like gnome is
but if you port everything to EFL, it would be awsome
