Don't hold your breath. I guess phasing out Catalyst support for HD 4000,
and older HD series, should be an "incentive" to buy new cards.
IIRC, AMD representatives said the open drivers are a suitable replacement now.
While I love open drivers and indie games - let's face it:
The open drivers are not there yet for modern graphics intensive blockbuster games
which will hopefully (also) come to Linux soon.
And I doubt they'll catch up soon. :/
The Radeon HD 6300M in my laptop ran TF2 just fine with the r600g driver (Ubuntu 12.10), but fps looked to be below 20, Resolution was 1366x768. Interestingly the game suffered from black screen when running with fglrx-update.
their characters could run around with white ear buds on them to indicate they're on a Mac.![]()
So AMD does care about Linux, hm? Good news. Can't wait to see the benchmarks. The less reason people have not to use Linux, the better.
Someone have yet compiled and used this new drivers on Ubuntu 12.10 with success?
