    Default AMD radeon hd 7550M

    Hello
    My friend wants to buy a new laptop a sony vaio E14126,he will install ubuntu 12.10 on it,the graphic chip is AMD radeon hd 7550M 1GB.
    he wants to know if it is going to work will and is the radeon chip compatible with linux in general and ubuntu specifically before buying it.
    Any help is appriciated.

    7550 is a Northern Islands chip (link) and will therefore use the r600g driver, which is pretty good, but doesn't have very effective power management, and doesn't have hardware-accelerated video decoding.

    With the fglrx driver it has all of these things and should be fine.
