Depends on your outlook. The vast majority of Kickstarter games that I have seen use Unity, just because it has good cross-platform support, and that's important for independent developers.Originally Posted by Article

Why does absolutely everyone try to make a MMORPG? C'mon people, you want 100,000$ to make a MMORPG? It's got failure written all over it. MMORPG cost tens of millions of dollars to make!

Gaming market in general. With the rise of console, mobile, and indie gaming, the desire for complex high-graphic, high-tech engines appears to be dropping out. Consoles and mobile do not have the same hardware power, and Indies do not have the man power. Therefore the two main features being sought after are ease of development and portability. As I said, that is why Unity is being so successful, and now that they have good Linux support that is actually a good thing.
