How will this improve KMS's performance?

AFAICS it prevents slow, occasional operations like reading EDID from blocking more frequent things like page flipping and moving the cursor. Seems to separate out the locks to reduce the amount of *avoidable* blocking.

The improvement is probably more related to interactivity or smoothness rather than "performance", although I guess the performance would be a heck of a lot higher with this change during an EDID read

Hmm, does that mean that things like Plymouth will be able to animate smoother now?
