Hey, if you don't like facts, then you are going to spend most of your life unhappy.

EDIT: I'm not ex military either. I pay for my medical insurance. I invest in my own 401k. I save money into my own savings account. I pay my own bills. I work 6 days a week. I live paycheck to paycheck. But I'm happy because I know that I can support myself. Even if the government collapses I know that I will get by. I guess it really just depends on how "Post Apocalyptic" the government collapse that the socialists cause will be.

EDIT2: And I don't listen to Limbaugh either. His rants get inane. I'm not a libertarian. I'm not republican or democrat. I am liberal on some things like rash cream. And conservative on some things like how much butter to use in my mac and cheese.

    This thread is awesome
Please Squarepusher, don't leave so soon after all you've already done to get the nonsense and the flame on this thread to first-class levels (even by phoronix standards). That, and I'm pretty sure there are many topics you guys haven't discussed yet like religion, toilet paper orientation, cat vs dogs.. Don't let me down!

Hollande is a socialist who doesn't believe in socialism. What you see there is anything but socialism.

Now kindly state which 'European country' you come from so that I can start properly examining your mental disconnect here to do with your insane McCarthy-ite ideas regarding 'socialism' and how it 'runs' Europe (when it's Libertarian Austrianism running Europe right now actually). I already told you the country I originate from and it's there for all to see.

    Put up or shut up.

Gotta pull from the inside. It's just plain easier.

So which country? Put up or shut up time. What do you have to hide?

Wow this thread went way off the deep end. Went from a semi civil discussion to a slugfest. From my experience writing high performance multi-threaded stuff, both desktop and server space I've always found java to be wanting. It just compromises too much and it's not that good a language. With all its warts c++ has been flexible enough to fit totally different programming paradigms. c++-11 is great, another huge boost. java doesn't stand this same test of time. Garbage collection is just pure fad. It's been a non issue in c++ programs for a very long time.

Java found its place in the enterprise, mostly because of support from sun, ibm, etc who used it to help sell their server hardware. It's cross platform claims never really came true. Too much variation between VM implementations and the platforms themselves.

For plain utility applications Java is probably as good as any. In these cases something that's "good enough" is needed with a bit more safety than c and c++ provide. But on the flip side, java is an inferior choice when it comes to resource management, there's way too much going on, the runtime and libraries are just too heavy unpredicatable, assuming you need the ability to manage those resources.

That was my reasoning behind hoping that ouya2 or later versions of android would provide the ability to do everything lower level and still offer an optional JVM layer.

    +1

This thread is epic. Reminds me of Spy vs Spy games (and cartoons)

So you admit yourself that you are a 'parasite' in spirit - you just call it being an 'entrepreneur' instead.

Thanks, that's all I needed to know.

So you profiteer off GPL'ed open source code (which you then wrap your 'game engine' around - none of which you would have been able to do without the people you brand as 'idiots' not providing all that source to you for free - since you yourself are not talented enough to do all that stuff), but you don't return anything to that same community because 'there is no reason for you to do the same'. That is called parasitical behavior - and frankly I find it surprising that a site like Phoronix that likes to brand themselves as 'open source Linux' fans would tolerate that kind of behavior and why they haven't banned you yet just for stating this out loud.
