Default Mixing fglrx and the frame buffer

Has anyone tried mixing Xorg/fglrx and the vesafb/uvesafb frame buffer driver? I don't spend much time outside X these days but it would be nice if I could increase the size of the console beyond the standard 80x25, which looks horrible on my 22" 1680x1050 screen.

I've done some reading on vesafb and uvesafb but none of the documentation I've run across so far makes any mention of possible interoperability concerns with the Xorg graphics stack. Has anyone tried this yet, and if so, did it work?

i think it worked for me. somewhere around fglrx 8.35.

i briefly tried with uvesafb recently and also got it working.

Was there anything specific you needed to do with uvesafb, other than setup the initramfs to run the vm86 BIOS code in early userspace?
