      I can't help but think there should have been at least one stable release by now, perhaps without all the new features.
      It's already well past the point where improvements for most people outweigh any remaining regressions, and the situation where major distros have already shipped 2.99.x on stable releases is a bit silly.

        for people who still run gen4 intel gfx (thinkpad t400 etc) ... is it true that the 'official' video aceleration api lies about providing h264 support and you have to use this one:

          Yes. It does lower CPU load when watching videos (from ~50% to ~25% IME), but at the cost of some distracting flickering at 720p and being just about unwatchable at 1080p.
          Not worth it IMO, after using it for a while - which would be why it was never released in the main driver.
