Too bad that things have gotten pretty quiet around Tizen. Tizen IVI is basically a no-show at the LA Auto Show, while everyone is showing off Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the same car, no less (via Daring Fireball).

Bringing your own smartphone to connect to the car seems to become a thing.

Could someone explain why stuff like that are added to weston (ivi xdg) and not as a protocol to wayland?? Are shells supposed to be part of the compositor instead of the protocol??

Sure. Weston is nowadays used as a testbed for new protocols. They may propagate to core wayland if they are stabilized and useful enough.
