Phoronix: X-Video Support For The Mode-Setting DDX Driver

The xf86-video-modesetting DDX driver that provides generic hardware support as long as there's an underlying DRM/KMS driver now has X-Video support when using GLAMOR...

    Cool

    Cool!

What is the next feature that will be implemented for this generic DDX driver?

Which features would be possible to implement in this generic DDX driver?

Which features would not be possible to implement?

It wouldn't be possible making Tom Cruise gay.

He may or may not be, but he's also a scientologist and thus could not admit it

He's widely reported to be so, but he is also a Scientologist, a "religion" notorious not only for bilking people out of hundreds of thousands of dollars, but also for vicious homophobia. If he is, he may not be out to himself due to the severe internal contradiction this represents. Human sexual preference should be considered to be at least kernel-level if not firmware level code, might even be hard-wired. Trying to go against it is not a good idea.

Scientology also started a war against hackers they could not win with raids on people's homes in the 1990's stemming from lawsuits over publication of the "OT III" documents claiming space alien "Xenu" disposed of surplus population here and started all of humanity's problems that way. That attempt to censor the Internet by punishing and intimidating individual computer users started a war between Scientology and internet users (and especially Anonymous) that Scientology has done very poorly in. You can now find all those secrets formerly limited to those who gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Scientology online. If you are ready to take a trip through a sewer in a glass-bottomed boat, fire up your favorite privacy-respecting search engine and look for Xenu, SeaOrg, Suppressive Person, and terms you find from those articles. Just be sure to have plenty of barf bags handy.

Lawyers can be just as bad, just in their own way...what does this have to do with X-Video/DDX drivers? D:

Most off-topic and poorly researched post I have ever seen/10.

Hi, i would like to have to x.org accelerating my 2d desktop on the raspberry pi. for example with the newest raspbian release. is this possible already, or have i to install "The new VC4-based Raspberry Pi driver" and x.org 1.17 or 1.18? when will x.org 1.17 or 1.18 be released, is there a release date?

Tested modesetting vs radeon, not faster for games

I am running an AMD FX 8120/Radeon HD 5750 machine, and did not get GPU acceleration of opengl with the modesetting driver on opengl games. Using Ubuntu Vivid (alpha) with Oibaf PPA version of mesa and linux 3.18. Compiz/MATE worked fine-but so did Cinnamon in software rendering over a year ago, due to the power of this CPU. On opening the desktop no noticable difference, but framerate in the 2d (but written in OpenGL) Criticalmass/critter game dropped to about 15% of of what I got on Radeon. Scorched3d did not open at all , producing a "failed to set the video mode" error.

Were the benchmarks above set using a newer version of modesetting that passes opengl calls to libgl?
