Phoronix: Asynchronous Device/Driver Probing For The Linux Kernel

While Google's Chrome OS supports asynchronous device/driver probing, the mainline Linux kernel does not. However, patches are working toward this feat in order to speed up the kernel's boot process for hardware/drivers that are slow at probing...

Why has it taken so long?

Ive always wondered why the Kernel did so many things in a single threaded fashion during boot.
I guess supporting so many platforms, its just kind of hard to do in a queue fashion?

Why Google developers didn't merge that to the mainline?

For one, to lower their porting costs every time. But It could haven't meet the kernel inclusion standards, just like Binder.
Linux gains so much features in present time, and that makes me happy.

Except this is ChromeOS which is largely (if not completely) unrelated to Android. Additionally, I suspect you do not have the expertise required to judge the quality of their code.
