So someone adding a game to GNOME, somehow detracts from the work of other developers, right? ...oh

That is not how open source development works. Someone spends time developing a game and proposing it for inclusion as part of GNOME. Telling them no will not magically add any improvements to other portions of GNOME. It is not a top down organization which can tell developers what to work on. It is much more organic and many volunteer developers will work on whatever they are interested in.

There are developers paid to work on GNOME and they might do some of what the organizations employing them ask them to do and you will typically see a mix of both types of development in any GNOME release.

I guess that's what Michael meant for a "very exciting Gnome", lol. Anyway, first Gtk3, then the horrible tablet interface, Gtk+... it's an ugly mess. Gnome devs have never been known for listening to their users. As for real alternatives... meh.

It's been more than ten years gnome people are waiting for picture thumbnail in GTK file chooser (cf bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=141154), without thumbnail preview Gnome user should click on each picture to know wich one to select...a joke, but not a funny one. Some basic functionnality are not here or disapeared, like free space in nautilus (cf bug https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=684943), transparent terminal...I'm thinking seriously of change to KDE where these three features are present (and more...).
