Phoronix: Changes I Made When Installing Fedora 21 On My New Ultrabook

Last weekend I wrote how I switched back to Fedora as the Linux distribution on my main production system. That experience continues going well on the new X1 Carbon ultrabook and have no regrets. One of the questions emailed in and tweeted were readers wondering how I'm getting along with GNOME 3.14 and what tweaks took place...

Install mpv, enable sna driver, tweak vm settings in sysctl.

Also libvdpau-va-gl and enable hw accell in flash for hardware video acceleration on intel gpu.

I installed the bad codecs, Flash for Firefox and Chrome. I would like to try out KDE Framework 5 on Fedora 21, but I failed to install it. It seems the tutorials are outdated...

This indeed. Needed for mp3, which is also often used for html5 audio like on soundcloud.

        Code:
        export vblank_mode=0
in my .bashrc to boast graphic performance on my r600 netbook. Some gnome-shell effects felt sluggish for me with vblank.

        Code:
        layers.acceleration.force-enabled = true
in firefox to have smooth html5 video

Michael, why aren't you a premium user on your own website? Those ads are ugly...

Oh yeah, the frippery stuff is very nice. Also use gnome-tweak-tool to set some stuff.

I have installed Fedora 21 recently, using a server ISO and without installing additionnal packages (like a desktop).

I like Fedora, but it is not easy to install only packages we need (Fedora installs too much dependencies).

What changes do you make when you're installing the distribution of your choice?
I'm using Arch. so, a lot.
