I do not understand why phoronix did not mention about a new version of Aliens vs Predator because they have made an incredible progress with this open source project.

Initially, this project was available for users who used a Linux x86. However, someone ported this game to Linux x86_64, Mac OS X, Raspberry Pi, and now it supports Aliens versus Predator Classic Redux (above 3 GB of data), which looks amazing:

It took him two months to made these changes, and I think that is hard to predict what features will be included in the next version o AvP.

I have the Mac version of that game, any chance I'd be able to use the assets of it with that?

I think you should try it because in the old readme of AvP I saw this information:

"It is unknown if the Mac Gold Edition will work with this (I'd be interested in knowing if it does or not)."

I do not have the Mac version of this game yet, so I can not check this out.

However, the new author focused on AvP 2000 for Windows because this version is probably cheap, and you can buy it in many places.

I do not know who is the new author because Steven Fuller had this suggestion in readme of the old version of AvP.
In the old readme, they mentioned about different versions of AvP:

Fork of the original AvP port for Linux, expanded with multiplayer and other features - mbait/avpmp

"This port currently supports Gold Edition, Regular, and the Alien demo."

The new author who is AnonymousHoser decided to focus on AvP 2000 for Windows.

Personally, I think that will be useful information that could be added to the readme, but I think you should contact with AnonymousHoser if it works with the Mac version of the game.

Michael didn't mention AvP in this news article about OpenMW because IT'S AN ARTICLE ABOUT OPENMW.

              So. Like. You knowwwwww.

              Duhhhhhhh.

                License

It is too bad that OpenSceneGraph have a vanity license instead of a real, established open source license.

According to http://www.openscenegraph.org/index.php/about/licensing the licence is pretty much a slightly less restrictive LGPL.

                    Indeed it is.
It is still not a FSF-approved, OSI-approved or DFSG-approved license.
It is a custom vanity license, not a established existing license.

                    This leads to license proliferation.
