The Khronos Group filed a trademark request earlier this month with the USPTO over the name Vulkan as it pertains to drawing 2D/3D graphics... Vulkan might be the name of the next-generation OpenGL specification due to be announced next week...

Actually "vulkan" only means that on croatian, other slavic languages use "вулкан"...

If i have to guess some croat from AMD got idea for the name or some serb

Not all, mostly it is about: ortodox ones yes, catholic no... and some use both depending on those.

вулкан is just cyrilic for vulkan. In serbian you can write either one. In rusian is cyrilic for internal use, but trademarks also have romanized version for export, which would be vulkan.

In polish is wulcan because they don't have V.

In dutch it is vulkaan.
