Phoronix: LibreOffice GTK3 Support Got Improved: "Performance Usable"

For what it's worth, it seems the GTK+ 3.x support for LibreOffice is finally becoming "usable" thnaks to a Red Hat developer...

Oh snap. I'm compiling LibreOffice right now. But I'll be using Qt anyway.

People do not realize that gtk3 is dead deal. Picking toolkit that maintainers do not realy intend for using outside of their own ecosystem is not really wise..

Just as wise as using any platform-specific toolkit (on Windows, OS X, Android etc.), which often makes sense. Besides, it actually works on Windows and OS X, and there are actual apps using this possibility.

In term of user experience GTK 3 is great, and technically it's a major improvement over GTK 2.

Qt 5 is also very good, better in many senarios, but it's good to have some quality competition.

All relevant toolkit is written predominantly for one platform.

GNOME devs think GNOME is platform. Do you honestly think LibreOffice people want it to be just GNOME software? I do not think so.

GTK3 is perfect for Libreoffice. Caol?n McNamara is also the developer who keep the coverity defect ratio close to zero so this porting is in good hands. Maybe we will see a GTK3 Libreoffice in Fedora 23? Red Hat are doing the same thing with GTK3 and Firefox.
GTK3 is perfect for GNOME3 and they intend this toolkit to be only used for GNOME3. They have no problem breaking compatibility because they can fix their own software. Meanwhile world of independent software devs hates GTK3. Its a terrible call. They should just settle for Qt and be done with it. Life woud be better for everyone. And for developers and for people who make themes to achieve uniform application look.
