Phoronix: More SPIR-V & Vulkan Details Might Be Revealed Next Week

There's hope that next week we might learn some new details about SPIR-V and Vulkan than what already has been made public over the past month...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

SPIR-V specification is already 100% complete and publicly released with a working GLSL compiler, so nothing new to learn there.
As for Vulkan, go read the Mantle documentation and you will have learned at least 90% of how to program in Vulkan. If you want to
know how the VK_RENDERPASS works, go look at the Metal docs, they have the exact same concept (forgot the exact class name).

I don't think there's a lot more to be revealed, now it's just waiting for Khronos to work through every little feedback it get's from engine
devs and hardware vendors to make sure everyone is served well and no oversights happened.

Vulkan is so exciting. Glad AMD was able to force Khronos' (and everyone else') hand to actually overhaul their APIs for a new era in gaming. It also comes at a right time when mobile hardware is powerful enough and gaming can be unified across platforms. Also, with Intel moving the "average" mainstream performance for its CPUs downwards now with its next-generation chips (pushing U-series and now Y-series chips into mainstream, that can't even do much more besides mobile tasks), Vulkan is needed to compensate for the lower CPU performance.
