Phoronix: OpenGL 4.1 Extension Implemented For Intel Mesa Sandy Bridge

In January of 2014 there was ARB_viewport_array added to the Intel Mesa driver, an extension needed for OpenGL 4.1 compliance, but at the time it was only enabled for Ivy Bridge graphics hardware and newer. Intel has now extended that support back to Sandy Bridge...

Nice! I thought my gen2 sandy wasn't even going to get 4.0. So, 4.1 is a surprise. Actually, I'm in nvidia mode, but the last time I check my intel driver opengl version, I thought it said 3.1, but I could be wrong.

Time flies, Sandy Bridge is old? I still have a Pentium 2 computer somewhere...

SandyBridge supports OpenGL 3.3 but will never have full support for Opengl 4.0 or higher. But that doesn't mean that it won't have OpenGL 3.3 + some extensions. And that is what has happened here.

For some time Linux desktop distros packed tools that unreliably showed supported OpenGL.

Heck! Steam to this very date report OpenGL full profile version. So my r600g OpenGL 3.3 Core profile is reported as.... 3.1

And that wrong number is sent with all bug reports too :|

But now all current distros should have proper tools for reporting Mesa OpenGL support.
