Default LGP Cold War Released

Quote:
LGP is excited to announce that Cold War, from Mindware Studios has gone gold! We expect the game to be available in the next few days, and we have a demo for you to try out, containing two great levels.
This is a terrific Linux-native game that I had been playing for some time now with their Beta program. It is a Splinter Cell like game. The date they expect the game to ship on is July 31. Be sure to try out the demo if interested, and report back with your thoughts.

I'll also talk to my contacts at Mindware and see about performing an interview in the next couple of days.

I played the demo and thought it was pretty good. Never really figured out the character control all the way, but anyway. Too bad you have to buy the game through LGP directly, as a local game store is preferable so that you don't have to bother with online payment, shipping etc. Then again, I suppose the linux port was *their* investment, hence: they're making their profits through their own businesses.

I'd be interested in getting this. Any chance we'll get some impressions of the game?

I've played this game and I'd say, not bad... but leaves much to be desired, although, I think this is more to do with the actual design of the game than the Linux port. I think they got a lot of the standard stuff right, but I wasn't exactly impressed and I never got to the next room because Fedora would crash.

Anyone end up ordering the game? Any thoughts on it?

The game is fun, but has anyone found out how to use a widescreen (16:10) resolution?

If I recall correctly from my Beta experience with the game, you should be able to configure the resolution from the text configuration file unless that has been changed.

When I changed the resolution in the config file under the game's root dir nothing changed. I flipped through 'README' also in the game's dir and it pointed to a config file in ~/.coldwar. There was no dir called .coldwar so I created one and copied the config file into it, yet the resolution still didn't change. Maybe it was just a limitation of the demo?

Finished up an interview with Mindware Studios regarding their company, Cold War, Linux, and the Meng engine. It turned out to be quite interesting, and should be posted later this week.
