got my 6600GT working... now a quick question

I realize this may not be the most appropriate place to ask this (please direct me elsewhere if you agree), but I got twinview working no problem... but the funny thing is that after I logged out and logged back in, the Gnome panel only spans one monitor - not both (although it spanned both after I applied the twinview settings the first time).

Any ideas as to why this would happen?
