how likely is it that nVidia would release a new-series beta drive excised of new features, presumably in order to test core 3D functionality of the new series without giving the game away on those new features?

That is a likely possibility. ATI has done that .

Installing them wright now!
If i run in to problems ill sure report back.

edit: it seems to be runing ok, it just doesn't show the name of the chip in my card, 7600gt, it says unknown.
